What are diabetic socks?

Diabetic socks are specially designed to improve blood flow to the feet and keep feet clean and dry. They provide extra cushion in the heel and ball of the foot to prevent cuts, blisters, and corns, all of which can lead to problems for people with diabetes.

Why do people with diabetes need special socks?

People with diabetes have a higher risk of foot injuries and complications from injuries. That’s because elevated blood sugar levels can damage the nerves that go to the feet (peripheral neuropathy) and cause blood circulation problems. Peripheral neuropathy makes it harder to feel foot injuries. Wearing diabetic socks reduces a person’s risk of foot injury, and light-colored socks make it easier to spot blood from an injury.

Who needs diabetic socks?

Diabetics who have peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage) and are prone to foot injuries should wear diabetic socks. Even those who don’t have peripheral neuropathy can benefit from diabetic socks, since they protect and keep feet clean and dry.

Are diabetic socks the same as compression socks?

No, in fact, they’re very different. Compression socks are designed to improve blood circulation back to the heart. Since they can restrict blood flow to the legs and feet, you should avoid compression socks if you have diabetes, especially if you also have peripheral artery disease (PAD). Quality diabetic socks, like EcoSox, provide mild compression, which can help improve circulation.

Can diabetic socks prevent foot problems related to diabetes?

They can help prevent foot injuries and blisters, which are more dangerous for people who have diabetes with peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage).

What features should I look for in a diabetic sock?

Look for diabetic socks made of soft, moisture-wicking materials, like viscose. Also look for socks with stretchy cuffs that don’t cut off blood flow, flat seams or no seams (to help prevent blisters), extra cushion in the heel and ball of the foot, and a foot-conforming fit that doesn’t bunch or wrinkle. Light-colored socks will help you spot blood from an injury. EcoSox diabetic socks are specially designed for people with diabetes.

Should I get diabetic socks?

If you have diabetes, you should keep at least a few pairs of diabetic socks on hand. Wear them when you exercise and when you’re on your feet for extended periods of time, even if you don’t have health complications of diabetes, like peripheral neuropathy.

How much do diabetic socks cost?

EcoSox are competitively priced at $8.00 to $12.00 a pair. Choose from a variety of styles, from hiking/outdoor socks to crew socks to over the calf socks.

What materials are diabetic socks made of?

EcoSox diabetic socks are made with viscose fibers from sustainable and eco-friendly bamboo. Viscose fibers are silky soft and have performance properties that keep feet odor free and dry and reduce friction, which can cause blisters.
